Music Bibliography
There are several prominent books of traditional music notation one can obtain. I have made a list of my favorites below.
- "O'neils Music of Ireland", by Capt. Francis O'neil. This is the basic primer of Irish Music. It is available in an edited (corrected?) reprint from Oak Publications.
- "1001 Gems, The Dance Music of Ireland", by Capt. Francis O'neil. The follow up to the book above.
- "Ceol Rince na hEireann", by Breandan Breathnach. In three volumes, this is by far the best modern collection of the music. It is tough to get here. Its published in Dublin.
- "Music from Ireland", by Bulmer & Sharpley. A nice collection of music in a number of small volumes. Published by Celtic Music, 24 Mercer Row, Louth. Lincolnshire, England.
I have included below a list of some of the best recordings I know of. You may also listen to MIDI samples of traditional Irish music.
