- All of the music here began as ABC files. This allows one to use letters as notes that can be read by various ABC programs. Its really easy. You can find out more about the ABC system by going to the ABC home page. There is also an ABC users group.
- My first ABC program was Jim Vint's ABCWin software. It allows you to write and save ABC files with a user friendly interface and convert the file into standard musical notation as well as play the tunes. All the standard notation on this site was produced by Jim's software.
- After making the ABC file, I initially used abc2midi by James Allwright to convert the file into a midi sound file. Currently I use ABCMus and Music Sculptor softwares.
- ABCMus is an ABC player and editor by Henrik Norbeck. It allows you to create and manage ABC files, listen to them, and save them as midi files. It is my favorite ABC editor and midi creator. Excellent example of good functionality user interface.
- Music Sculptor is a piece of midi software that allows you to adjust the volume, pitch and pan of a midi music file. I use it like a kind of finisher for my midi files. You can reach its creators, Aleph Omega Software, at PO Box 61085, Kensington Postal Outlet, Calgary, Alberta T2N 4S6. A limited freeware version is on the web in various places. As ABCMus is developed, I'm hoping it will take the place of Music Sculptor. Note: You can't have Music Sculptor open at the same time as another program that uses a midi device as MS will not release the device to be used in other programs.
